Tim and I were next door neighbors in Park Lane, growing up playing king of the hill, hide and go seek, red rover, and a bunch of other outside games at a time when kids spent every daylight minute outside.  He was a talented musician, playing trumpet, accordion, clarinet, and eventually tuba in the HS band.  His first car was a dark blue, 66 Pontiac Lehmans, 4-speed consul, with bucket seats, a really cool car.  After HS, he went into the Navy, and served on an aircraft carrier, where he got the bug for flying.  Once out the service, he got his pilot's license and flew out of the Greene County airport regularly.  I had the pleasure of flying with him one time and he was an excellent pilot.  I never heard Tim utter a curse word or say negative things about anyone.  He was a genuinely nice person.  He was co-piloting a cargo plane making its descent into Cleveland's airport during a bad winter storm when high winds off Lake Erie caused the plane to tip and roll during landing, killing all of the pilots.  The Navy played live Taps at his burial, which was incredible.  Tim is buried at the VA cemetery in Dayton.  I still think of Tim and the fun we had growing up, and will always miss him.

Wow, thanks Steve. I didn't know that about Tim. When was the landing accident?

Randy, I think the accident was in late January or early February 1992.  It just took me 25 years to decide to write something about it.  Feeling sad about Lyn Oiler's passing got me to thinking about Tim.  Hope you are doing well.  I'll never forget the gruesome elbow injury you had during the wrestling match.  Wasn't it against Carroll?  Hard to believe that you wrestled 98 your sophomore year!!  I also remember you getting shipped to Vietnam, maybe one of the last groups to go there......Funny how we remember different things.  To this day I regret not playing in the senior pick up football game over Thanksgiving that lasted 73 hours......Take care, Steve
